Chesterfield based Staveley Hall and King George V bowling clubs are just the latest two sports facilities to have benefitted from such a programme.
Rob Marsden, greenkeeper at the environmental services department for Chesterfield Borough Council, bases his annual management of the greens around the programme that Sherriff Amenity’s John Mullins has put in place and believes they have reaped the rewards from doing so.
“Since I’ve started following the Sherriff Amenity nutritional programme, everyone has commented on how much the greens have improved over the last two years; not just the playing conditions but health wise too. I’ve got a much deeper and healthier root system which is paying benefit. I can now also reduce the irrigation throughout the summer and speed the surface up without stressing the grass out too much,” he said.

Rob has noticed a particular improvement in sward coverage on the two greens, which is the result of over-seeding with TT1 grass seed and top dressing from Sherriff Amenity. TT1, which was created to meet the specific needs of golf and bowling greens, provides a fine, dense sward of good colour that is tolerant of close mowing. It has excellent year round performance, fineness and disease resistance.
With winter now upon us, Rob has started to incorporate the use of Sherriff Amenity’s GoGreen Plus and MP7 Fungicide Package to provide much needed protection against chillier climates. The GoGreen Plus formula regulates the release of iron over a longer period to give a sustained effect whilst the Potassium element of GoGreen Plus strengthens cell walls in the leaf and stem of the grass plants, improving resistance to cold temperature.
Protection against disease is further enhanced at the two bowling clubs by the inclusion of MP7 in Rob’s programme. Rigorous trials at the Sports Turf Research Institute (STRI) showed that by applying a mixture of Astute, Chipco Green, GoGreen Plus together with the adjuvant Velocity disease control of Microdochium patch (Fusarium patch) was noticeably improved. MP7 combines these products.
Rob first came across Sherriff Amenity in his previous position as a greenkeeper at a golf course where he worked with a few of the company’s products. But as time has gone on Sherriff Amenity is now the only supplier he turns to.
“I used to shop around and do a lot of business with other companies but the products we use now are all from Sherriff Amenity, because they have absolutely everything. I use their pesticides, worm control, insecticides, fungicides, top dressings and fertilisers - literally everything.
