Conservation bat box - Wildlife World

A high-specification bat box - built specifically for conservation professionals and pro landscapers.

This premium quality conservation bat box is handcrafted from untreated solid, durable FSC-certified timber, offering excellent longevity and excellent insulation. Please note: Bats are susceptible to smell and will de deterred by any treatments applied.

The robust design includes twin vertical chambers and a slanted, cut-away front with ladder-style grooves, making it easier for bats to access their preferred chamber. The multi-species layout is suitable for a variety of UK bat species.

The hinged roof, secured with a removable screw (earlier version also featured a brass catch), allows for internal inspection by licensed bat workers. A recycled plastic hanger is included for straightforward mounting on trees or buildings.

Key features

• Handcrafted from untreated, breathable timber

• Decorative front finish, water-based paint only

• Designed to allow bat droppings to fall to the floor, so doesn't require a licensed bat worker for cleaning

Installation and siting

• Mount the conservation bat box high up, between 2.5m and 5m on a building or mature tree using the pre-drilled hanger

• The ideal aspect is north, southwest or southeast where the box receives only partial sun during the day

• Placement along existing bat flight paths or feeding routes increases the chance of occupation

Please note: Bats are a schedule 1 protected species under the Wildlife and Countryside Act. It is illegal for any member of the public to disturb a roost, handle or kill any bat. Bat boxes, therefore, must only be inspected by licensed bat workers. However, you can monitor your bat box without disturbance by looking for mouse-sized droppings beneath the box or observing from a distance at dusk to check for activity.
